Description: STK: #BAYO-2Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI 1906 US Army M1903 & M1 Garand Rifle M1905 S.A. Springfield Armory Dress Parade Sword Bayonet & Leather / Metal Scabbard Manufacturer: S.A., Springfield Armory Model: M1905 Blade Length: 15.75" Serial #: 51886 TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI M1903 bolt action rifle (and WWII M1 Garand self loading rifle) M1905 Springfield Armory sword bayonet and leather scabbard. This one is a dress/parade bayonet with a nickel plated blade. President Roosevelt rejected the M1892 bayonet because it was thought of as being too short for the M1903 rifle. The M1905 was a longer version and it also incorporated a mechanism for locking the bayonet to the scabbard. It also was designed with a screw to hold on the grips instead of rivets. Two manufacturers manufactured the bayonet - Rock Island Arsenal and Springfield Armory. Approximately 1.5 - 1.6 million were produced from 1906-1922. A second round was made during WWII. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. The guard has a very slight wiggle, almost not worth mentioning. They have light scrapes and oxidation. The one (1x) escutcheon screw securely fastens the grip panels. It has light tool marks and a strong slot. The grips have draglines and scrapes. The wood has a layer of varnish that have worn off in a few places. The wood finish is a darker color. The spine, sides and fullers have light scrapes and a couple small spots of oxidation. There are no nicks or dings on the blade and it has its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp straight point. Most of the nickel plated finish remains on the blade. The left ricasso is marked "S.A." / 1906" with a flaming bomb in between. The right ricasso is marked "US" over the serial number "51886". This scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The metal locket is securely attached to the body and has scattered finish loss. It looks like there is varnish on it? The leather is tightly bound to the wood frame. There are no chips or cracks to the wood, but there is a 1.25" piece of leather missing from the "cover". There is also a .25" cut on the leather towards the bottom. Otherwise, there are no rips or tears and the stitching is sewn tightly (besides the area with the missing piece - see photos). There are some light draglines and handling marks. Most of the finish still remains. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
