Description: WWII US Army Officer’s Visor Cap Maj. R.G. Ham 8th Army HMT Rohna Survivor Army Visor For your consideration is a WWII U.S. Army Officer’s Visor. This visor belonged to Major Roland George Ham, Jr. He served with the 853rd Engineer Aviation Battalion. This battalion was a part of the 8th Army that served in New Guinea, Burma and the Philippines. Major Ham was a survivor of the HMT Rohna bombing in November 1943. The Rohna was hit with a German radio-guided, rocket boosted glide bomb. More than 1,100 people killed. At least 1,000 were American soldiers. Included with the visor is one of Major Ham’s blouses with an 8th Army patch. A book titled “Forgotten Tragedy”. This is the story of the Rohna disaster. A copy of Major Ham’s Draft Registration Card. Copies of the U.S. Congressional recognition of the HMT Rohna in October, 2000. I purchased these items at an estate sale. At the time these items were owned by Major Ham’s niece. Major Ham passed away in 1998. The condition of these items is very good. The visor is very nice. Some of the thread has torn away from the sweat band (see photo #12). There are a few small holes underneath side of the visor. They are hidden and hard to see. The visor has been kept in a plastic bag for years. It is slightly mashed down. The blouse has some stains (see photo #13).
