Description: WWII U.S. ARMY SAFETY CAN U.S. ORD. DEP. MILITARY OIL CAN can holds approximately one gallon of liquid. It is marked "GWD Mfg Co. One Gallon Protection" on the bottom and "Underwriters Laboratories Inc, Inspected Safety Can No 135956" on the plate that is placed right over the top of the US ordnance plate with a very clear ordnance bomb and "U.S. ORD. DEPT."The paint is worn and scratched in many places., few dings and dimples but the integrity of the can is still intact. The spout is diagonally slanted, different from most of the "civilian" cans I've seen. To use you would pull back on the handle, causing the spring on the cap to contract, allowing the lid to be opened so the liquid in the can could be dispensed.
