Description: A matched pair of gas mask canister carriers for horses (left and right to support the carrying of dual canisters). Although the U.S. army mechanized more than most before and during WWII, it still was necessary to develop gas protection measures for cavalry horses and pack animals in case the chemical horrors of WWI were repeated. The leather shows storage wear and creasing, but is still very pliable and could easily be brought back to life with a little easy TLC. The stitching looks solid, while the metal rivets are intact but need the verdigris cleaned from them. This is a great piece of gear for the WWII collector, equestrian, or for someone interested in gas warfare. They are currently stuffed with newspaper to help hold their shape, but will ship flat.
