Description: The Patch: This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage XV Corps patch with a white back. This patch is in good condition. It has a very nice white backing. This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic. The History: The XV Corps was activated on February 15, 1943 at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana. It trained in California in the Summer of 1943 and embarked for the England in December. While there, the corps was assigned to the Third Army for Operation Cobra, the breakout from Normandy. The corps became operational on July 31st 1943 and pushed south toward Avranches. It helped capture Le Mans on August 8. The XV Corps then advanced north to help close the Falaise Pocket. The men of the corps established the first bridgehead across the Seine River on August 19th. It passed through Paris and raced across France with the Third Army. The XV Corps ended this campaign along the Moselle, and it was assigned to the Seventh Army soon after that. It next fought in the Vosges Mountains, capturing Sarrebourg on November 23. This made troops of the XV Corps the first Allied troops to reach the Rhine River. The Corps established defensive lines near Bitche while the Allies fought off the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge. On March 26th, the men of the XV Corps made the first assault crossings over the Rhine River. They then fought to the north Capturing Worms, Aschaffenburg, and Bamberg. In April they attacked attacked and crossed the Danube River. The XV Corps went on to liberate the concentration camp at Dachau and captures Munich on April 30th. They advanced into Austria and captured Salzburg on May 4th. They were located near the city when the war ended on May 8. Please read my auction requirements.
