Tells the story of college student Ken Ward, a pitcher for the varsity baseball team. Illustrated with four black and white plates. This is the Canadian edition, printed from the Harper & Brothers plates, with changes to the title and copyright page. It states "Published March 1911". Harper & Brothers were the publishers of the first American edition. Grosset & Dunlap editions of this book are reprints, which show a copyright date only. Condition: Good condition. Sound and square binding in a tan-coloured, cloth-covered boards. Gilt stamped titles on spine. Black stamped titles and illustration on the upper board. Board and text block edges have some wear and grime. Corners are softened and tips worn-through. Small tear in cloth at top of spine. Spine ends lightly frayed. Both boards show light soil, and the white colour of the illustration on the upper board has some rubbing and scratches. There is a partially erased name and address of a former owner on the front free endpaper. The text pages have a bump to the bottom fore-corner, which has left a soft crease to most, but not all, of the pages. There are occasional minor soil marks throughout.
